Important: Sunset quality scores, forecasts, and sun position calculations are estimates only — not professional meteorological advice. Always use your own judgment outdoors and follow local safety guidelines.

Effective date: July 2, 2026 · Last updated: July 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Dusklight: Golden Hour (the "Application") handles information when you use our sunset photography companion for iPhone. The Application is provided by Tiekita Ketchson ("we", "us", or "our").

Information We Collect

Dusklight does not require an account, sign-up, or login. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number inside the app. We do not sell personal data, use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or track you across apps and websites.

The following data is stored locally on your device only:

  • Saved photography spots, ratings, and journal entries
  • Gallery photos you capture or import (stored in the app's private documents folder)
  • Photo titles, locations, camera details, checklist progress, and achievements
  • App preferences (theme, onboarding state, bedtime settings for Rest Light)
  • Cached weather forecasts and sun-time responses
  • Widget snapshot data shared between the app and widget extension via App Group

Location Data

Dusklight uses your location only while the app is open to calculate sun position, sunset direction, golden hour times, and local forecasts. Location data is processed on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can use bundled reference content and manual spot entry without granting location access.

Camera & Photo Library

If you choose to capture or import photos, the app accesses your camera or photo library only with your permission. Images you add are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to any server operated by us.

Network Requests

When you have an internet connection, the app may contact:

  • Open-Meteo — to fetch public weather forecasts (cloud cover, humidity, visibility, UV index) for sunset quality scoring. No API key is required. Forecasts are cached on your device.
  • sunrise-sunset.org — to fetch sun rise and set times for your coordinates, with offline solar math as fallback. Responses are cached on your device.
  • Apple Maps / MapKit — for map display and address search when you look up a location. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.

We do not send your personal gallery, journal, or saved spots to these services. Requests include only the coordinates or search terms needed to retrieve public data.

Widgets & Live Activity

Optional Home Screen widgets and Golden Hour Live Activity use Apple's system frameworks and an App Group shared between the main app and widget extension. Data displayed (sunset time, quality score, phase progress) is read from local storage on your device. We do not receive widget or Lock Screen content on our servers.

How We Use Information

Because we do not operate user accounts or collect personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to profile, share, or sell. Every feature — Horizon, Golden Hour, Atmosphere, Gallery, and Explore — runs using data stored on your device.

Data Storage & Retention

All of your content remains in the app's private storage on your device. There is no cloud sync and no remote backup operated by us. Deleting the app permanently removes associated local data from your device.

Children's Privacy

The Application does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because no personal data is collected or transmitted to us, the app aligns with COPPA and similar child-privacy standards.

Your Control

You can edit or delete spots, journal entries, and gallery photos at any time inside the app. Revoke location, camera, or photo library access in iOS Settings at any time. Uninstalling Dusklight removes all locally stored app data from your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect app improvements or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. The core commitment — local storage, no accounts, no sale of personal data — will not change without clear notice on this page.
